| Computational Science
Module:
The purpose of the Computational Science module is to
provide VT STARS participants with a series of authentic University
level Science lectures and assignments within an informal
hands-on environment that use technology and provide motivation
for academic achievement, career aspirations and personal
goals.
Instructional Objectives:
Introduce basic concepts, vocabulary, methods and major
processes that are explored in an undergraduate
major degree program within a specific discipline
Explain the importance of the overall topical field
to our larger society
Provide practical hands-on activities within a computer-based
exercise
Offer an attainabale challenge for the students to
pursue independently
Describe the role of technology and college experience
to careers in the field
Educational Outcomes:
Improved awareness and understanding of the basic
science concepts within specific disciplines
Practical conceptual framework to organize and
manage their current knowledge of biology, chemistry and algebra
Informal learning experience related to a specific
post-secondary degree program and/or "knowledge worker"
career path
