 Purpose, Educational Objective and Instructional Outcomes
Information Communications Technology Module:
The purpose of the Information Communications Technology module is to provide VT STARS participants with a global framework for understanding the role of technology in information management and effective communications. This module uses Virginia Tech's Information Literacy tutorial to introduce basic research skills in finding, evaluating and referencing information sources for academic achievement, career aspirations or personal goals.


Instructional Objectives:
Define "Information Literacy" and its significance in the age of e-learning.
Introduce basic concepts and skills in finding, evaluating and referencing information sources.
Provide guidelines for appropriate use and citation of information sources.
Demonstrate effective strategies for searching full-text information sources.
Provide hands-on activities in finding, evaluating and referencing information sources.


Educational Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of this module, VT STARS participants will have an increased understanding and awareness of the significance of information literacy concepts and skills.

Participants will have the ability to perform basic research using information communications technology for career information and a topic of personal interest.
